PhotoFacial / IPL Treatment
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy to reduce sun damage, redness, brown spots, and visible blood vessels. Non-invasive skin rejuvenation with physician oversight.
All laser and light-based treatments at Berens MD – Concierge Healthcare & Wellness are physician-supervised to ensure safety, appropriate settings, and optimal outcomes.
PhotoFacial (also called IPL or Intense Pulsed Light) is a non-invasive light-based treatment that targets pigmentation, redness, and vascular lesions. The broad-spectrum light energy is absorbed by melanin (brown spots) and hemoglobin (red blood vessels), causing them to break down and fade.
This treatment is ideal for patients with sun damage, age spots, rosacea, facial redness, and overall skin tone irregularities. Dr. Berens customizes treatment settings based on your skin type and concerns.
PhotoFacial IPL Results

Important: Individual results vary based on skin type, age, sun damage severity, and treatment protocol. These images represent specific patient outcomes and do not guarantee similar results for all patients. PhotoFacial IPL is not suitable for all skin types—patients with darker skin (Fitzpatrick IV-VI) may have higher risk of hyperpigmentation. All treatments carry inherent risks and benefits, which Dr. Berens discusses during consultation. Images shown are of actual patients treated by Dr. Abram Berens, MD and are used with permission. Treatment series typically includes 3-5 sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does PhotoFacial IPL hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as a warm rubber band snap. Cooling gel is applied before treatment to enhance comfort. Most patients tolerate the procedure well without numbing.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients require 3-5 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart for optimal results. Pigmentation concerns typically respond faster than vascular issues.
What happens to brown spots after treatment?
Brown spots will darken immediately (appearing like coffee grounds) and then flake off over 7-10 days. Do not pick or scrub these areas—allow them to shed naturally.
Is there any downtime?
Most patients experience mild redness and swelling for 1-2 days, similar to a mild sunburn. Makeup can typically be applied the next day. Avoid sun exposure and use broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Can PhotoFacial IPL be combined with other treatments?
Yes. IPL is often combined with chemical peels, microneedling, or dermal fillers for comprehensive skin rejuvenation. Dr. Berens will create a customized treatment plan.
