Preparing for a medical skin consultation
A new growth, persistent acne, excessive sweating or another skin concern deserves an assessment of what is causing it. Choose the appointment around the concern rather than assuming a particular removal or cosmetic procedure is the answer.
Describe what changed
Write down when the concern began, whether it has changed, any discomfort and previous treatment. Bring a medication and skin-product list. A changing, itching or bleeding spot should be discussed with a clinician; an online photograph or an article cannot determine a diagnosis.
Separate evaluation from procedures
Ask what can be addressed at the first appointment, whether testing is proposed and how results will be communicated. If removal is discussed, clarify the method, follow-up and any pathology charges. Acne management and cosmetic scar treatment may involve separate goals and appointments.
Questions to bring to your visit
- What evaluation is needed before choosing treatment?
- Would a test or pathology examination be proposed?
- How and when will I receive results?
- Which concerns require a different or more urgent visit?
