Wart Removal

Effective removal of common, plantar, and stubborn warts. Multiple treatment options including cryotherapy, excision, and prescription medications.

Wart treatment at Dr. Berens MD Concierge Healthcare & Wellness is personalized based on wart type, location, and patient preference. Dr. Berens offers multiple treatment modalities for optimal results.

Warts are benign skin growths caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). They can be painful, unsightly, or contagious. While some warts resolve on their own, treatment accelerates removal and prevents spreading.

Dr. Berens provides professional wart treatment ranging from cryotherapy (freezing) to surgical excision, depending on the size, location, and persistence of the wart.

Freezing destroys wart tissue. Most common treatment. May require 2-4 sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart. Causes temporary stinging/blistering.

Cantharidin ("Beetle Juice")

Topical medication applied in office. Creates blister under wart, lifting it off. Painless application. Blister develops over 24-48 hours.

Prescription Topicals

Prescription-strength salicylic acid, imiquimod, or other medications. Used at home between office visits. Best for flat or numerous warts.

Surgical Excision or Electrosurgery

Reserved for large, resistant warts. Performed under local anesthesia. Immediate removal but requires healing time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are warts contagious?

Yes. Warts are caused by HPV and can spread through direct contact or contaminated surfaces. Avoid picking at warts, sharing towels, or walking barefoot in public areas. Treatment reduces contagion risk.

Most warts require 2-4 cryotherapy sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart. Some resolve after one treatment; others require multiple modalities. Plantar warts are often most stubborn.

Cryotherapy causes brief stinging during application and may ache afterward. Excision requires local anesthesia. Most patients tolerate treatments well with minimal discomfort.

Warts can recur if HPV remains in surrounding tissue. Recurrence rates are lower with professional treatment compared to OTC products. Dr. Berens will treat recurrences if they occur.

Warts have tiny black dots (blood vessels), disrupt skin lines, and are viral. Corns/calluses are thickened skin from pressure. Dr. Berens will correctly diagnose and treat your condition.
